dutch producer frits wentink continues to flourish in the follow up to his debut lp rarely pure never simple that was released on wolf music back in march this year. throughout releases on heist and wolf, frits has consistently drawn for his arsenal of synths, effects and drum machines and through doing so has stitched a sound characterised by raw drums, analogue bass tones and odd, lo-fi samples.

von der reeperbahn ins künstlerviertel - von großer freiheit zur münchner freiheit, von hamburg nach münchen -- genauer gesagt nach schwabing, dem ortsteil münchens, der in den 60er- und 70er-jahren aufgrund der kulturellen vielfalt abseits des sonst eher konservativen münchens (natürlich -- man ist ja in bayern) bei den hipstern schwer angesagt war und noch heute vom damaligen ruhm zehrt. den dazu passenden soundtrack schwabing affairs liefert einmal mehr das kölner diggler label (ob der dritte teil der serie porz affairs heißen wird?), welches erneut die archive nach soundtracks aus der halbwelt durchwühlt hat, um den zumindest musikalischen flair schwabings wiederzubeleben.

was wäre das leben ohne erotik? das dachte sich einmal mehr das diggler-label und setzt nach kurzen ausflügen in die science fiction seine berüchtigte serie the erotic world of... mit einer zusammenstellung des österreichischen komponisten gerhard heinz fort. das musikalische dargebotene spektrum könnte dabei nicht breiter sein: kiffer-rock, bossa nova, schlager, schmalz -- heinz lässt nichts unberührt und die cinematografischen glanzlichter à la liebesspiele junger mädchen, ich mache alles mit oder auch insel der 1000 freuden noch besser flutschen. gleich 19 mal wird die schönste sache der welt unverkrampft und mit gelegentlichem augenzwinkern besungen und bestöhnt, als gäbe es kein morgen mehr. aufgrund der stilistischen vielfalt ist abwechslung in jeder hinsicht garantiert: kaum hat man sich von dem anrüchigen -come shoot- (gesungen von the background studio groupies) erholt, wird man mit dem gleichermaßen schrägen wie furchtbaren -dampfnudeln- (aus dem streifen geh, zieh dein dirndl aus) schnell auf den boden der tatsachen zurückgeholt.

joss is a ukrainian producer with a deep understanding of house. he has released his seductive wares on labels like this one as well as get high music and high-jack. a long time vinyl lover, he has played intimate clubs and vast festival all of europe and is now in fine form in production mode, too. opener solely is a deep, shuffling cut with icy hi hats, subtle cymbal splashes and a tight bassline than gurgles and bubbles invitingly. muttered vocals add an all important human element and its a fine effort, once more from the man.

in the beginning of 1991 marius kuilenberg and maarten van der vleuten teamed up together and recorded two eeps for djax, *magic moments* and *...gives you central house*. marius being a dj with a great feeling for production and with a large collection of samples and maarten being a musician/technician with an own studio, turned out to be a good combination. after the two releases mentioned above, marius and maarten split up. marius focused on dj-ing only and maarten continued working as major malfunction on his own.

broken grooves are almost always present in arapus productions and pitfall is no different. with a trippy synth that goes all the way and effected voices to go along, this track rules the night and the whole a side.
two tracks found their way on the b side and their flavour is quite different. escape is a pure deep house gem, and a clear indication of arapus soulful influence. extremely danceable and super uplifting, this track brings the summer back. wasting on the other hand is dark and has a dirty broken tech groove. this track may seem toolish but it s a monster when it hits.

craig peyton was a mainstay in nyc jazz and dance music beginning in the 70s. from playing on dan hartmans -vertigo/relight my fire- to his work on boogie funk productions with daryl payne, he is one of the unsung heroes of the era where disco transitioned into house music. his drum machine and synth based cover of william devaughans -just be thankful- came out on profile records in 1983, a daring move for a white man trained on the vibes. he gives the jam a haunting and funky rework that has only escalated in popularity over the years. it has been bootlegged extensively while original copies remain quite elusive.

groove line records are proud to add to their 2015 releases of half-speed mastered re-issue singles with both the extended special disco version and instrumental version of earth wind & fire s 1976 funk bomb getaway gracing each side of a 180g 12” virgin vinyl disc. looking to gain on his groups critical and commercial success from the early 1970s ew&f s main man maurice white brought in the legendary charles stepney, who had tutored him at chicago s chess records in the 1960s, as the co-producer and arranger on their incredible 1976 album spirit, which opened up with the formidable funk track getaway. co-written by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter bernard “beloyd” taylor (s.o.u.l.) and songwriter peter corbelenky around the theme of escapism and self-fulfilment, the primal urgency of getaway was the ideal composition for white to record with ew&f. white felt the song s energy and positive, uplifting lyrics matched the attitude and ethos of his group perfectly. as a result ew&f created a funk gem both musically and lyrically perfect for the dance floor.

gdm (glaswegian dance music) pioneer - sparky (aka dave clark) is back on numbers. having spent the last year on lockdown in his luxurious garden studio we have finally managed to wrestle two tracks out of his ageing hands. signals is an all-new track, first heard on dave’s essential mix for bbc radio 1 (aired as part of jackmaster s made in glasgow), and now in the sets of ben ufo and jd twitch. signals is classic sparky, nailing that sweet spot between the proto-techno sounds of british synth pop and the dancefloor nous of the motor city. the flip is a snarling metal-bashing beast called tigress which comes direct from his archives. we ve been on at him to release this one for almost a decade and after playing a 192 mp3 at a pretty boisterous numbers x optimo party last summer, sparky finally relented. one day we ll convince sparky to let us release all the music sitting in his vaults but for now here are two gems from a man whose music has played a pivotal role in the history of numbers.

samaris release silkidrangar sessions ist ein nachfolger und begleiter des letztjährigfen albumdebüts silkidrangar und beinhaltet überarbeitete versionen des originals, welche nun exakt ein jahr später veröffentlicht werden. samaris vereinen sehr ungleiche elemente in ihrer musik, die von elektronischen sounds, über klarinette bis hin zu jófríður Ákadóttirs bezaubernder stimme reichen. samaris mischen kalte elektronik mit gewagten, perkussiven beats und eindringlichen vocals, welche isländischen gedichten des 19. jahrhunderts entnommen wurden. einen großteil des letzten jahres verbrachte die band auf tour und spielte festivals wie roskilde, green man, reeperbahn, longitude, etc. die silkidrangar sessions wurden über zwei tage in reykjavík aufgenommen, und es wurden diverse gastmusiker eingeladen, welche instrumente wie tabla drums, cello, saxophon oder modulare synthesizer einbrachten.
